Naples, Italy in November 2026 is a month of open-air art, a major new exhibition and the first signs of Christmas.

Three dates are confirmed by official sources: Ibrahim Mahama's boats in Piazza Municipio until Wednesday 18 November, the exhibition "Angelica e Élisabeth" at Gallerie d'Italia from 6 November, and the Napoli Racing Show on the seafront from 27 to 29 November.

The boats stand in an open square, and the exhibition costs from €8. Below: what is on, what is still unconfirmed, how to plan rainy days and where to stay.

What November feels like in Naples

By November the summer crowds have thinned and the light over the bay turns low and golden in the late afternoon, with Vesuvius across the water. It is also one of the wetter months, so a good plan mixes walks with museums.

Events in Naples in November 2026

Voyageur: three boats in Piazza Municipio (until 18 November)

What: "Voyageur" is a monumental public work by the Ghanaian artist Ibrahim Mahama, made for this square. Three wooden boats, about 5, 7 and 8 metres high, are built with traditional Ghanaian models and techniques and face the port.

When and where: in the centre of Piazza Municipio until Wednesday 18 November 2026.

The City of Naples promotes and funds it as the second chapter of Napoli Contemporanea 2026, curated by Vincenzo Trione. The city's page describes it as open to everyone and lists no ticket.

The work speaks of migration, trade and work between West Africa and the Mediterranean. Go in the last hour of daylight, when the port lights come on behind the hulls.

Angelica e Élisabeth at Gallerie d'Italia (from 6 November)

What: "Angelica e Élisabeth. L'età delle donne pittrici" compares, for the first time, the lives and work of Angelica Kauffmann and Élisabeth Vigée Le Brun. Both painted at the Neapolitan court, and the show gives space to their Italian years and to their self-portraits.

When: from Friday 6 November 2026 to Sunday 7 March 2027, at Gallerie d'Italia, Via Toledo 177. It is curated by Francesco Leone, Fernando Mazzocca and Elisabetta Rasy, with the Accademia Nazionale di San Luca.

Tickets and hours: €8 full, €4 reduced, free for visitors under 26. The museum opens Tuesday to Friday from 10 am to 7 pm and at weekends from 10 am to 8 pm, with last admission an hour before closing. It is closed on Mondays.

Tickets are sold online and at the desk. Entry to the museum is free on the first Sunday of the month, which next falls on 6 December.

Gallerie d'Italia, Piazza Municipio and Piazza del Plebiscito sit within a short walk of each other. One afternoon can cover the boats, the exhibition and the great colonnade of Plebiscito at dusk.

Napoli Racing Show on the seafront (27 to 29 November)

What and where: the City of Naples announces three days of cars and shows on the Lungomare Caracciolo, from Friday 27 to Sunday 29 November 2026. Its page mentions sixty cars, thirty supercars and some of Italy's best-known drivers.

What is not published yet: hours, entry and road closures. Check the city's news page before you plan a car transfer along the seafront that weekend.

Castel dell'Ovo on the Naples seafront, with small boats and swimmers in the blue water

The seafront is where Naples walks on a mild evening. Along it, Castel dell'Ovo sits on its rock, with small boats moored below and the hotel façades of Via Partenope behind. On the Racing Show weekend expect it to be much busier than usual.

Christmas in the old city: San Gregorio Armeno

Via San Gregorio Armeno, the narrow street of the nativity makers in the historic centre, is where Naples starts Christmas. Workshops sell hand-made shepherds, houses and figurines for the presepe, the Neapolitan nativity scene.

The lanes of the old city are strung with lights and red horn-shaped charms, and for the Christmas fair the artisans set up wooden stalls along the street.

Dates not yet confirmed: the local press reports that the 2026 Christmas fair, run by the artisans' association, will last until 10 January 2027.

One report gives 1 November as the start, while Fanpage wrote on 30 October that the inauguration date had not yet been set.

We could not find the 2026 dates on the City of Naples website or an official organiser page, so treat them as provisional. The same applies to the city's wider Christmas programme. We will update this guide once the dates are official.

Rainy-day plan: the Archaeological Museum

If the weather turns, MANN, the National Archaeological Museum in Piazza Museo, is the obvious refuge. It opens from 9 am to 7.30 pm, with last entry at 6.30 pm, and is closed on Tuesdays.

A full ticket costs €20, and visitors under 18 enter free. Admission is free for everyone on the first Sunday of the month (6 December), when some sections stay closed.

The Mosaic section and the Secret Cabinet are closed for refurbishment until further notice, so check the open rooms before you go.

In 2026 the museum opens exceptionally on Tuesday 8 December, the Immaculate Conception holiday, and closes the following day instead.

Getting around in November

Metro Line 1 is the simplest way to reach the November events: Toledo and Municipio stations both serve Gallerie d'Italia, and Municipio opens onto Mahama's boats. The Funicolare Centrale stops at Augusteo, close to Via Toledo.

If you arrive late at night, note that the City of Naples has ordered night closures in the Galleria Vittoria tunnel for cleaning works.

From 11.30 pm to 5 am on the nights of 9 to 12 November and 16 to 19 November, one direction at a time is closed and traffic is diverted.

Where to stay in Naples in November

Toledo and Municipio: the most practical base this month. You are on Metro Line 1, a few minutes from the exhibition, the boats and the port.

Chiaia and the seafront: best for the Racing Show weekend and for evening walks on the Lungomare, with views across to Castel dell'Ovo.

Historic centre: sleep here if Christmas in San Gregorio Armeno is the reason for your trip. Lanes are narrow, so travel light.

Our selection of hotels in Naples covers these areas. For neighbourhoods, food and day trips, see the Naples City Guide, and on a dry day try our walk down the Pedamentina steps from the Vomero.

What November means for hosts and local businesses

November in Naples is not one peak but a few clear windows, and the calendar is easy to read from official sources.

The dates to plan around

The first is the final stretch of "Voyageur", which closes on Wednesday 18 November.

The second is the Racing Show weekend, Friday 27 to Sunday 29 November, which follows US Thanksgiving on Thursday 26 November, a natural long weekend for American travellers.

Then comes the Immaculate Conception holiday on Tuesday 8 December, with free museum entry on Sunday 6 December just before it.

For short lets and small hotels, these are the nights where a minimum stay is easiest to justify; midweek nights in mid-November are where flexible offers make more sense.

Information guests will ask for

A pre-arrival note can save guests time: the Gallerie d'Italia exhibition is closed on Mondays and MANN on Tuesdays, Metro Line 1 serves Toledo and Municipio, and the Galleria Vittoria night closures may lengthen late taxi rides.

Be careful with San Gregorio Armeno. Until the dates are published officially, describe the fair as expected rather than confirmed.

Tourist tax

Naples charges an imposta di soggiorno per person per night, and the rates have changed in recent years. Check the City of Naples' current rate before quoting it to guests.

For longer stays, our Living in Naples page covers rents, transport and daily life. This is general information, not legal or tax advice.
