The Milan Christmas market 2026 in Piazza del Duomo runs from Tuesday 1 December 2026 to Wednesday 6 January 2027, around the cathedral in the very centre of the city.
The dates come from the City of Milan's public notice for the 2025 and 2026 editions and from the organiser's own site. There is no ticket: the wooden huts stand in the open square, and you pay only for what you buy.
The other big date is Artigiano in Fiera, the huge crafts fair at Fiera Milano Rho, from Saturday 5 to Sunday 13 December 2026, with free entry on a personal pass you register for online.
Below are the dates we could confirm on official pages, the ones not yet announced, how to reach each market and where to stay. Everything was checked on 4 November 2026.
Milan Christmas market 2026: the confirmed dates
Piazza del Duomo, 1 December to 6 January
The market around the cathedral is the one most visitors mean when they search for the Milan Christmas market.
The City of Milan put the organisation of two editions out to tender together, from 1 December 2025 to 6 January 2026 and from 1 December 2026 to 6 January 2027, and the organiser, I Mercatini di Natale, lists the 2026 edition with the same dates.
Expect wooden huts selling Christmas food, sweets, crafts and gifts. Opening hours have varied from year to year: the city's YesMilano tourism site gave 8.30 am to 10 pm for the 2024 edition.
We found no 2026 hours on the organiser's pages when we checked, so look at its page before planning an early or late visit.
Getting there: Duomo station on metro lines M1 (red) and M3 (yellow) opens directly onto the square.
Artigiano in Fiera, 5 to 13 December
This is not a street market but a fair of artisans from Italy and around the world, filling the halls of Fiera Milano Rho on the north-west edge of the city. The organiser's site gives the 2026 dates as 5 to 13 December, at Fieramilano Rho and online.
Entry is free, but you need a pass. It is personal, valid for every day of the fair, and you save it as a QR code on your phone before you arrive; if you turn up without one, you can register at the entrance.
Children under 14 do not register but must be with an adult who has a pass.
Getting there: take metro line M1 (red) to Rho Fiera, the last stop on that branch. A standard ticket costs €2.20 and is valid for 90 minutes.
Suburban trains S5, S6 and S11 also stop at Rho Fiera, and the organiser says the S11 runs more often at weekends during the fair. If you drive, leave the A4 at Pero – FieraMilano; there are more than 10,000 parking spaces.
Markets with 2026 dates still to come
Oh Bej! Oh Bej! at the Castello Sforzesco
Oh Bej! Oh Bej! is a centuries-old fair held for Sant'Ambrogio, the city's patron saint, whose feast falls on 7 December. YesMilano describes it as the most traditional event of Sant'Ambrogio week, with stalls around and behind the Castello Sforzesco.
In 2024 it ran from 5 to 8 December. On 4 November neither the City of Milan nor YesMilano had published the 2026 dates. Plan around the first weekend of December, but do not book only for it until the dates are official. The nearest metro stop is Cairoli on M1.
Villaggio delle Meraviglie in the Giardini Montanelli
The Christmas village in the Giardini Indro Montanelli, the public gardens of Porta Venezia, is aimed mainly at families, with free entry to the park and some activities that charge a fee.
Recent editions opened in mid-November: in 2024, YesMilano listed 16 November to 6 January. The organiser's site could not be read when we checked, so confirm the 2026 dates there. Use Palestro or Porta Venezia on M1.

Tips for visiting the Duomo market
Choose the hour
Weekend afternoons and evenings, when the lights come on, are the obvious time to go, so expect company. If you want to browse the huts in peace, try a weekday morning, then step into the cathedral once you have seen the stalls.
Watch the calendar
In 2026, Artigiano in Fiera opens on Saturday 5 December, Sant'Ambrogio falls on Monday 7 and the national holiday of the Immacolata on Tuesday 8. Those four days put the fair, the Sant'Ambrogio celebrations and a holiday weekend on top of each other.
If you prefer quieter streets, aim for mid-December or the days after Christmas, since the Duomo market stays open until Epiphany on 6 January.
Combine with a crafts day
Artigiano in Fiera is big enough to fill a whole day. Go on a weekday if you can, allow for the metro ride out to Rho, and keep the evening for the Duomo market back in the centre.
Where to stay for the Christmas markets
The historic centre around the Duomo, Brera and the Castello is the easiest base: you can walk between the cathedral market and the Castello Sforzesco, and M1 takes you straight to Rho Fiera for the crafts fair.
Porta Venezia suits families who want the Christmas village on the doorstep, and it is on the same M1 line.
Our selection of top hotels in Milan lists well-rated places to stay across these districts, and the Milan City Guide covers neighbourhoods, transport from the airports and what to see by day.
If you have a weekend, our guide to Milan in a weekend fits Leonardo's Last Supper, Brera and the hidden courtyards around a market visit.
What the Christmas markets mean for hosts and local businesses
December demand in Milan concentrates on a few dates.
In 2026, the opening weekend of Artigiano in Fiera runs straight into Sant'Ambrogio on Monday 7 and the Immacolata on Tuesday 8, a four-day stretch that combines the fair's opening weekend, the city's patron-saint day and a national holiday.
Pricing and minimum stays
Hosts can treat 5 to 8 December as the peak and the weeks either side as shoulder dates. Those on the M1 line, from the centre to Rho Fiera, can mention the direct metro ride to the fair in their listings, since that is the question fair visitors ask first.
Help guests plan
A short note with the M1 route to Rho Fiera, the reminder to register for the free pass before leaving, and the Duomo metro stop for the evening market saves questions at check-in.
Restaurants near the Duomo and the Castello can expect longer queues on the long weekend and say clearly online whether they take bookings.
Tourist tax across the new year
Every overnight stay in Milan carries the imposta di soggiorno, per person per night. From 1 April 2026 it is €3 to €12 in hotels and €9.50 in short lets and B&Bs, under rules written for 2026.
Rates for 2027 had not been published as of 29 October, so stays that run past 31 December may be charged differently; see our guide to the Milan tourist tax. This is general information, not tax advice.
