Bologna’s historic centre is compact and almost entirely covered by porticoes, the arcaded walkways listed by UNESCO in 2021, so most visitors can leave the car behind and walk everywhere. Around Piazza Maggiore and the Quadrilatero, the old market lanes of Via Drapperie and Via Pescherie Vecchie, you wake up beside the Neptune Fountain and the deli counters.
